Comeback Quilters Episode #60

We’ve had a rocky start to the year but we’re finally back and ready to podcast!

2017 has started off with quite a bang! With two new babies joining the clan and now a new sister-in-law to add to the bunch, we’ve been busy planning showers and weddings and gatherings. Very little quilting has been happening but we’ve managed to sneak a few crafty things in here or there.

I’m participating in Alida’s Growing Up QAL and I’ve finished the first month’s block. I also attempted (poorly I might add) an Instagram fitness and QAL called the Sweat and Sew.

Dori has been cranking out baby blankets left and right to prepare for the new grandbabies about to make their appearances in a few months. Her knitted blanket is done and she’s moved on to a cute whale quilt. Pictures are on Instagram!

We went to our first guild meeting! We got to see a wonderful presentation by Thom Atkins (not Atkinson) and we enjoyed our first meeting so much we’re planning on going to this month’s!

Dori enjoyed her 2nd trip to Road to California, even with it’s bumps and issues. Even with the rain and her cold, she came home with some wonderful items from Carol’s Zoo and Golden Thread Silks.

A few shout outs to our friends around the web.

  • To all those going to Quilt Con this month! We are anxiously awaiting your pictures and posts of your experiences so we can live vicariously through you!
  • Thanks Kati for the book recommendation you left us on Episode #56.
  • Congrats to Francis and all the other quilter’s who have a quilt being displayed in Quilt Con this year!

  1. I am so happy that you are back! I missed your chats!!! I am sending a lot of good and positive thoughts your way and I hope everything will get better (health, family, craft and more)!!
Katie, I am so happy that you are enjoying the QAL!! Let me tell you a secret, but don’t tell anyone, ok? I am not that strict with the deadlines of my QAL 🙂 I am a scientist, so a deadline should have date, time and timezone… however… as long as you send me the picture of the finished block 5 minutes before I am sending the next out (which is usually Monday morning while I am having breakfast) you will get the next pattern 🙂 but since “rules” need to be “precise” my breakfast time seemed to be too vague 😉 you were not even the last one to turn the block in, so no worries! I am setting these rules just to encourage people to make the blocks and not postpone them indefinetly.
I share your frustration with the Splendid Sampler ones… at this point I did about 40 of them but it’s because sometimes I am in an “embroidery” mood so I do several embroidery ones at once… or several applique ones… but I am not too concern about making them precise or perfect, it’s just a fun distraction from other projects every once in a while.
I cannot wait to see all your secret projects Dori! Thanks for the creative entertainement during my otherwise boring commutes!

    • You make an excellent point about “being in the mood” for certain types of quilting/crafting. If a block comes out and you aren’t feeling it and then put it off but then other blocks come out (because there were two a week!), it can become overwhelming. That’s how I started to feel. Then I freed myself and admitted that the size was not my deal and that I learned a good amount from the few I did and I’m good with that! Thanks again for hosting and posting your QAL, I’m looking forward to getting February done!
