Time to catch up with us here at Hobbies Up To Here! The annual Katie-Needs-A-Month-Off event has come and gone. We’re now buckling up for a crafty summer together and a regular recording schedule (we hope)!
The Beatles quilt, Blackbird, has officially been accepted into the OC Fair 2018! We hope you get the chance to see it in person if you are in town!
Welcome back, hobbyists and crafters!
We’ve got a fun episode chatting about, well, US!
Thanks to all our friends and listeners who submitted questions. We had a great time sharing some unknown facts about us and really opening up to all our good friends and our new listeners!
And a quick moment to promote a contest I’m in. As a teacher, getting technology and classroom supplies to support a full class can be a daunting task. Through Duolingo, a language program that can help my English language learners, I’m trying to win iPads for my class! It would really add to my lessons and give my kids the advantage they need to help them build their language skills and their computer skills.
How can you help? Well it only takes a few moments to click this link and then vote for my class! That’s all!! And every vote helps me get closer to winning some iPads for my class to use during language and ELA centers. Thank you to all those for helping out!!
We’re glad to have you all here and listening to our most recent podcast episode.
This episode is dedicated to those crafters that have had to make the hard decision to undo part or all of their project. To those brave souls who take the longer road to start over rather than leave things as they are.
My post about undoing some quilting really hit home for so many quilters. Make sure you scroll down and check out all the great comments and positive encouragement we shared in this episode.
I’m working daily to remove the quilting and I hope to get it done soon so I can get this project back on my machine!
It’s time for the annual quilt shop hop here around Southern California! We’re excited that this year my dad is on board and ready to run with us. He’s got it all planned out already!
We’re also planning on a meet and greet at one of our local shops to meet with other So Cal quilters that are also listeners of the podcast. We’re aiming for a meeting at the Orange Quilt Bee but don’t have a set day and time yet. Keep an eye out on our Facebook page for an event notification soon!
Dori is thinking of heading to a local retreat in October up to Big Bear. I may not be a member but I may just drive up and crash with the quilters for a day!
Have yet to make it to Road to California but Dori has gone twice in and lived to tell about it! We’re aiming to go in 2018 together this time and maybe even sign up for a class or two. Pubic registration opens July 8th!
QuiltCon is coming back to Pasadena and we’re excited to sign up for classes and lectures! We really enjoyed our first trip in 2016 and we’re looking forward to experiencing the joy and creativity all over again! Public registration opens July 8th!
It’s been awhile hobbyists and we’re happy to be back together and chatting about all our crafty endeavors and failures!
We talk about life, the newest addition to the family, and what’s been happening in both our lives. Also, we go over the few crafty things we’ve attempted lately and share our “failure is fertilizer” projects.
Dori has been busy attempting a new quilt that hasn’t gone quite as she had planned. She’s sticking with it though and doing her best to work with what she has so far!
Jake and I got crafty in the kitchen and we tried to make some Tasty cake batter cookies. While they look cool, they were not edible.
Dori recently met up with a fellow So Cal crafter LoColleen! She bought a stitching frame along with a whole bunch of goodies for her cross stitching hobby.
The summer is upon us and we’re hoping to set up a So Cal Quilter’s Run meet up at one of the participating quilt shops during the run. If you are or someone you know is a fellow So Cal quilter participating in the run, follow us here and on Facebook (link below) to find out more details as we make plans for July!
What is it about the warmth of a comforting shower that brings up the most ingenious thoughts and plans? And of course it happens when you are all wet and unable to stop to write down all the great ideas you come up with!
Today’s music is brought to you by Reg (AKA Dad). The song was originally written as a lullaby for Jake and all the future grandbabies. Here’s to Jake, our big 11 year old, and our new little Logan.
We were surprised by a call from my sister announcing that Logan was on his way! He decided to come a little earlier than expected and he’s just perfect! Welcome, little man!
Papa and his newest little man.
This month we are playing along with the March A Long 2017 hosted by the Scientific Quilter. The goal is to sew/quilt/stitch/press/organize or anything in the realm of sewing for 15 minutes a day for the month of March.
It’s the beginning of the month so we set some goals. Dori is going to work on her curved log cabin. I’m going to continue with my blocks for the puzzle box quilt.
We share our shower thoughts for our YouTube channel. There is a plan to attempt some Pinterest crafts like this crayon melt art and record whether they are a pass or a fail.
Another idea is to continue with the box openings but to expand beyond quilting and sewing. I’m looking into some yarn and art boxes to try out along with including my husband in some geeky unboxings. Keep an eye out for our future video ideas.
Dori had a huge success with an instant pot recipe. They tried a Mongolian Beef dinner that was tasty and enjoyable!
Check out the #IGQuiltFest on Instagram. We’re having a blast hopping around and meeting new quilty friends!
Thanks to our listeners and followers for your subscriptions and your friendship. We really appreciate you all.
