Top 5 Hobbies Up To Here Posts of 2018

Untitled design

Another year, another Top 5 list! We’re about to say goodbye to 2018 and ring in a new year. But that can’t happen until we look back and review what were our most popular posts and projects this past year! So let’s take a look at what we’ve accomplished in 2018!

Top Viewed Post for 2018

TGIFF: The Curved Log Cabin

3534E544-8759-4189-B7E5-00E8364912B6

Although this was a 2017 post, this finished quilt remains our most viewed post for 2018 with a total  of  612 views! Having used a Missouri Star Quilt Co pattern and tutorial, my mom gifted this lovely blue and yellow quilt to my sister, Jen. It’s definitely a stunner with the clean white framing and the beautiful blue and yellow flowers. We’d have to say we like this quilt too!

TGIFF: The Beatles Quilt

img_7839

This post took TWO of our top spots for 2018! And there is no questioning why. This quilt is amazing! From the detailed faces to the stark black and white mixed with the delicate, flowing feather quilting, this quilt is a real eye catcher. It received 16 comments and 10 likes! This quilt went to the OC Fair and made it up on the wall but sadly did not receive any awards due to a technicality. We know, deep in our hearts, that it was a winner, for sure!

Most Popular Youtube Video of 2018

Flosstube #1: Introductions

IMG_2883.JPG

This year we ventured into new territory with our multiple hobbies. While we love to quilt, we also love to cross stitch! And through the power of the internet, my mom discovered Flosstube, a whole community of stitchers on Youtube sharing their WIPs and FFOs and hauls. We decided to take the plunge and make our own Youtube series about our stitching projects. Our first video was a hit with over 4,000 views, 194 thumbs up and 108 comments! Since then we’ve published 6 other videos and we’ve had a blast with each one!

Most Popular Podcast Episode of 2018

QuiltCon 2018 Episode #87

a644a-watcher_promoimg

It was another QuiltCon year and another chance for us to meet up with our friends and follow quilters. And boy did we have a blast doing JUST THAT! This was our second year at QuiltCon and so far our best year. We enjoyed every waking moment walking the floors, chatting with friends, filming our experience and even taking a class with Libs Elliot, a favorite designer. This ended up being our most popular podcast episode this year!!

What a year! We’ve had many completed projects finally come off our design walls and we’ve started so many beautiful projects. The friends we’ve met up with this year have kept us motivated and laughing. It’s been a great year for Hobbies Up To Here and we hope make more memories in the new year!

We hope you enjoyed this review of our year and that you take a moment to reflect on what you accomplished! This post is brought to you by Cheryl over at Meadow Mist Designs, a great friend and follow quilter. We had the pleasure of not only joining her the past 3 years but also meeting her in person this year. If you enjoyed this, check out her linkup with other blogs reviewing their best of 2018.

Top 5 Hobbies Up To Here Posts of 2017

It’s been a rather quiet year here at Hobbies Up To Here. We’ve not quilted or crafted nearly as much as we’d have liked but so many other great things have happened: two new munchkins have joined the family, my brother got married, and many other great happenings blessed us.
Even if the blog has been quieter and our podcast episodes aren’t as frequent, we still love to join Cheryl over at Meadow Mist Designs to celebrate the top posts of the year! You can go back and check out 2015 and 2016 to see what our past top posts have been.
Alright, lets jump in and see what our top posts have been this year!
#5 Post With The Most Comments
My dad’s first attempt at a completed, quilted, and appliquéd project received the most comments in the 2017 year with 17 comments. I believe it was his enthusiasm and pride in the work he did that garnered so much positive attention!
#4 Post With The Most Likes
A TIE!
Both of these posts received 8 likes each bringing them both in at #4 on our list.
#3 Highest Viewed Podcast Episode
And it looks like our episode all about hacks to make crafting easier gets another top spot! With 326 views, this podcast episode takes it’s second place on our list.
#2 Jake’s Top Viewed Post
Each year I share at least one or two blog posts about Jake and his sewing attempts. Last year his Darth Vader finish took the top spot as the most viewed post of 2016. This year I decided to dedicate the #2 spot to his most viewed/liked post. And this year it is his finished block post with 624 views!
#1 Highest Viewed Post of 2017
Congrats to my mom for taking the top spot (AGAIN!) with a beautifully finished quilt!! Ironically enough, the first year she won this spot was with a quilt she gifted to my brother in 2015. This year she takes the top spot with yet another gifted quilt, my sister’s curved log cabin. That post clocked in with 836 views, our highest yet!!!
It’s a gorgeous quilt so definitely take a moment to check out that post and read all about it. Or just check out this adorable picture of my nephew Logan sitting on it! Ah forget it, I mean, who can concentrate on that quilt when there is such an precious little man sitting on it!!
From all of us at Hobbies Up To Here, we hope you’ve had a marvelous holiday season and that your new year starts of wonderfully!! Here’s to 2018!!!

#5 Post With The Most Comments

TGIFF: My First Dresden!

Our post with the most comments (21 comments total!) is actually a finished project from 2015 that I didn’t get to post until after the new year. It was the post about my first Dresden and how much I love that little wall hanging. I was very proud of the quilting on it and this year, the moment the season was upon us, I took out that Dresden and hung it in my craft room.

This year the honor of the most viewed post, with 530 total views (WOW!) goes to Jake and his Darth Vader quilt!!!

While the majority of our posts are about our own finishes or what we are working on, Hobbies Up To Here is really a whole family enterprise. My husband and my dad are big supporters and their names and hobbies get mentioned throughout the year. But they aren’t the only ones! Our little man, my 10 year old son, has also shared his hobbies and interests here and there, too. And this year he made his first quilt top, an accomplishment that he is truly proud of. Congrats, my little man!

It’s been an amazing year with a lot of new interests, lots of learning, and the chance to meet, in person, so many of our friends from our on-line quilting community. We hope you enjoyed following along with us this year. We’ve had an awesome time and can’t WAIT to see what 2017 brings us!

Top 5 Hobbies Up To Here Posts of 2015

This year has been amazing. My little blog went from just being about my sewing exploits to a much bigger, wider net that also included my mom. She joined me on this journey in May and having her as my companion on this new road has been a blessing I don’t think either of us knew we needed. We’ve both grown SO MUCH and I’m lucky to have her as a friend and a mom to learn with!

As a celebration of this year together I’m sharing our top 5 posts from this year. I’ll link the posts and share some pictures. Then I want you to visit Cheryl over at Meadow Mist Designs for her 2015 Best Of linky party. There will be a plethora of wonderful posts shared highlighting the best of the best this year from around the crafty web!

Looking over our stats this year, we’ve had a lot of great posts. But five of them really stand out. I looked at a number of different stats like number of views, most comments, and best month. After looking through everything that was posted this year, here are our Top 5 Posts for 2015.

#5 Post With The Most Comments

WIP: Sewing Together Wonky Blocks

This post came in with a total of 17 comments this year! My son started showing interest in sewing last year when I started working on some bigger projects using my old Kenmore. I let him into the craft room and let him sew some simple lines. That was last year.

This year he not only finished sewing them into pairs, he designed a diamond shaped block he is pretty proud of. And I’m proud of him too! This week we picked out some batting for him so he’s ready to start the quilting process and finish his first block!

Stir Fry Chicken and Veggies

Chicken stir fry must be a fave with this post hitting a total of 11 likes! And it happens to be a favorite here in our house! Cooking is definitely one of my biggest hobbies because, well, we need to eat but also because I find it so creative. To throw together ingredients and make something that your family loves is something I enjoy doing.

{VIDEO} How To Beat That Creative Funk

It never fails. Life gets busy. Things get in the way. You unexpectedly find yourself unable to summon the energy to make a mess and get crafty. Well, what do you do?

I’ve recently found myself in a creative funk. For all the reasons listed above, I couldn’t find it in me to do any of the crafts that I loved. After a week of hemming and hawing around, I decided to make a list of ways to break through my creative funk.

I felt so much better having complied a list of ways to work through my issues that I thought I’d share them. Enjoy the video below and share in the comments anything you have found that works for you!
